Made by hand, stone by stone

Every Vandami piece passes through several pairs of hands before it reaches yours. Here is what happens between them.

The base

We build on brass, copper alloy or German silver, chosen for the piece rather than for the invoice. Brass takes gold-tone plating warmly and holds detail through casting. German silver suits oxidised and antique finishes.

The base metal for every piece is listed on its page. We would rather tell you than have you guess.

Setting the stones

Our polki-look and kundan work is set by hand, stone by stone, in the traditional method. A karigar seats each stone, works the surround until it grips, and moves to the next. A full bridal neckpiece can hold several hundred stones and take days.

Machine setting is faster and looks fine on day one. Hand setting is what still looks right in year five.

Plating and finish

Plating is done in measured baths, not dipped and rushed. Gold tone, rose gold tone, rhodium, oxidised silver tone and dual tone. Each is a separate process with its own timing.

Where a piece is marked anti-tarnish, it carries a protective coat applied after plating. This is what keeps the finish from clouding against skin, perfume and humidity. It is a real treatment with a real cost, which is why it is not on everything, and why we tell you exactly which pieces have it.

Quality checks

Before a piece is packed it is checked for stone seat, clasp action, plating evenness and weight. Anything that fails goes back to the bench.

A word on what we are not

Vandami makes premium fashion and imitation jewellery. Our pieces are not precious-metal jewellery and carry no hallmarking. Stones are decorative and are not certified gemstones.

We will never suggest otherwise, and we would ask you to be careful of anyone in this category who does.

What we stand behind is the craft, the anti-tarnish finish where stated, and the care we take before a piece ever leaves us.
